Plutôt que de réclamer de l'indulgence pour sa **traduction des passages que Delille avait lui-même imités de l'anglais**, Maunde aurait dû restituer les vers initiaux. Ainsi, tel passage qui constitue "a direct translation from the Deserted Village [de Goldsmith], and was meant to be so, […] should have been rendered in the express words of the original author, marked, if Mr. Maunde had so chosen it, with inverted commas[(//Id//., p.\ 58.)]. Certaines équivalences sont fausses, comme lorsque Maunde rend "seul cerveau" par "pour brain" dans les vers "[on] ne peut concevoir / Que dans un cerveau seul loge tant de savoir[(//Ibid//.)]".
