===== Présentation de l'œuvre =====

Cette **anthologie**, dont le titre complet est //The Rural Poetry of the English Language illustrating the seasons and months of the year, their changes, employments, lessons and pleasures//, paraît aux États-Unis en 1856 et forme un volume de 544 pages, sur deux colonnes. Elle est dédiée au président de la société d'agriculture nationale et à ses membres.

Les textes sont groupés par "mois".
  
===== Modifications et redécoupage =====

Bien que Delille n'appartienne pas à la littérature anglaise, le compilateur, [[jenks|Joseph William Jenks]], reprend l'**intégralité de la traduction** de //L'Homme des champs//, le [[maunderural|Rural Philosopher]] de Maunde (le texte correspondant, en français, reste donc celui de 1800). Le poème sert à illustrer le mois d'août, aux côtés d'un des grands modèles de Delille, //La Forêt de Windsor// de Pope, ainsi que d'autres textes composés par Milton, Clare ou Anacréon.

Jenks procède toutefois à **plusieurs modifications**. Le **titre** devient //Delille's "Country Gentleman[(Joseph William Jenks (éd.), //The Rural Poetry of the English Language…//, Boston, Jewett and Cie, 1856, p.(nbsp)263.)]"//. **Ni la préface, ni les notes ne sont reprises**[(Pour le chant 3, Jenks se contente d'éclairer en une ligne, en bas de page, l'identité de Méot et Du Bartas.)] et, si le [[maunderural#traitement_des_notes_et_guides_de_lecture|découpage introduit en 1801 par Maunde]] est utilisé pour composer les résumés placés en tête de chaque chant, cette anthologie ajoute entre les vers eux-mêmes de **nouvelles scansions**, valant sous-titres. Dans le cas du chant 3, ces pauses forment la liste suivante(nbsp):
